I will always be in total awe of these DUDES. Each one of them had even more talent than Robby Steinhardt had hair, and that is saying something.

One of my favorite songs ever
Sadly beautiful.
Who was the blues dude who said something like "If God created something better than heroin he kept it for himself"? This video could be brought in as supporting evidence.

On Obama's Fear-mongering
I loved this comment by "Leonardo" on the John Podhoretz piece a few weeks back WRT the President accusing the previous administration of acting out of unfounded fear:
Ha! Dead-on! Because losing your two-bit union job is SO SCAWWWWY that the government has to take action RIGHT NOW. And we can't sleep at night while polar bears and penguins are dying left and right. Good God, I'm getting hives thinking about all of this... I need a drink!
God forbid Barack ever used fear to further his agenda. Because the stimulus and all of the global warming measures are being sold solely on appeals to our highest aspirations.

Jonah Goldberg is on Medved
Jonah Goldberg is on Michael Medved's radio show discussing the paperback release of Liberal Fascism. Listen here.
You may want to quickly review my big post for the hardback release. A memorable post, to me.

A majority of Americans want to keep Gitmo open
From RCP:
I thought this part was interesting:
This is encouraging to me because I think that there's a chance that President Obama will see this as a line not to cross. It would be nice if the administration put to rest the lies of the left about Gitmo, e.g., that torture occurs there regularly, etc. I realize that's probably too much to ask for. But I'm hoping that he contents himself with talking about closing it without really doing anything which is a technique at which he excels.
A majority of Americans do not want to see the detainee prison facility at Guantanamo Bay closed and will be "upset" with the Obama administration if it continues to move forward with plans to shutdown the facility, according to a poll released this morning by Gallup.
By an even greater margin of three-to-one, respondents said they oppose the administration's plans to move some of the detainees to prison facilities within the United States.
Lastly, the poll shows that Vice President Cheney clearly won the national security "showdown" on Guantanamo Bay with President Obama last month. Forty percent (40%) of those surveyed agreed with Cheney's belief that the prison at Guantanamo Bay had helped make America safer. Only 18% agreed with President Obama's assertion that the housing of detainees at Gitmo had made America less safe.
I thought this part was interesting:
In the survey, Americans were inclined to accept the argument by Cheney and former president George W. Bush that the detention center had made the United States safer. By 40%-18%, they said the prison had strengthened national security rather than weakened it.
Those who want the prison to remain open feel more strongly on the subject that those who want to close it. A 54% majority of those polled say the prison shouldn't be closed, and that they'll be upset if the administration moves forward to close it.
This is encouraging to me because I think that there's a chance that President Obama will see this as a line not to cross. It would be nice if the administration put to rest the lies of the left about Gitmo, e.g., that torture occurs there regularly, etc. I realize that's probably too much to ask for. Ohio Right to Life Statement on the Death of Dr. George Tiller
From my email.
Hear, hear!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: 06-1-2009
CONTACT: Mike Gonidakis
PHONE: (614) 547-0099 x301
The following statement can be attributed to Mike Gonidakis, Executive Director of Ohio Right to Life:
"Ohio Right to Life condemns the killing of Dr. George Tiller. Such violence is inconsistent with the core beliefs of the pro-life movement and has no place in any civilized society.
As Ohio Right to Life's official Proclamation against Violence states, we and all legitimate pro-life groups are 'committed to the peaceful, legal, social, and political reform of our culture to affirm and protect all human life, and are unalterably opposed to any form of violence against abortion personnel and facilities.'
We will continue to work for peaceful and life-affirming solutions to aid pregnant women and their unborn children. Such solutions will never be advanced by violence of any kind against anyone."
Hear, hear!
Great comment on a very silly article prompted by the George Tiller murder
I thought this was a great comment on a very silly article attempting to establish speech codes like Obama did at Notre Dame, here's the link. It's made all the stronger because he is not pro-life. And you don't have to be pro-life to know bullshit when you smell it or see it.
Wow, that's powerful. This is not Canada; we have freedom of speech here and we will use it.
Just for the record... abortion is murder.
The man who drove to that church and pulled the trigger killed George Tiller, nobody else. The rest of your article is nothing more than an appeal to prevent people of a certain opinion from speaking about abortion in the frankest possible terms. If you don't want people having fearsomely strong opinions about the termination of pregnancies then I suggest you outlaw the practice, not try to prevent them from speaking. People who believe this procedure amounts to the systematic extermination of children will by the dictates of their own conscience have a lot to say about it.
For the record I'm not vexed by abortion in the slightest and I don't find the arguments of the pro-life movement compelling, but to attempt to draw a veil of silence around an issue of such profound conscience is cowardly and disgusting.
Wow, that's powerful. This is not Canada; we have freedom of speech here and we will use it.
Just for the record... abortion is murder.
The President, the Burger Joint and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
You can laugh or cry at this, take your pick. Here's the meat between the hamburger buns:
Some of the comments are over the top, but some are pretty funny.
Obama: What do you do Walter?
Walter: I work at, uh, NGA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
Obama: Outstanding, how long you been doing that?
Walter: About six years
Obama: Yea?
Walter: Yes.
Obama: You like it?
Walter: I do, keeps me...
Obama: So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial...uh...
Walter: Uh, we work with, uh, satellite imagery..
Obama: Right
Walter: [unintelligible] ...support systems, so...
Obama: Sounds like good work.
Walter: Enjoy the weekend.
Obama: Appreciate it.
