I like Weigel a lot, but there's something a little cranky (not that there's anything wrong with being cranky) here:
How many times have you seen a bunt properly laid down in recent years? Or a hit-and-run smoothly executed? How often have you watched a multi-million-dollar-per-year player forget how many outs there were in the inning? Or fail to run out a ground ball?
The answers are: 1) Lots of times 2) Lots of times (I am a Mets fan, so I am used to competence, at least in the past two years) 3) Twice 4) Often, though I also see guys like Reyes hustle almost all the time.
I know where he's coming from, but I don't think this generation is quite as awful as he lets on.

Yes, the steroid use is way down (as is the musculature of players I won’t mention).
