So which is it? Is the Republican Party a monolithic mob of rubber hosers and Leviathan worshippers, or are they in a strange circular firing squad?
Or are Republicans with different opinions merely engaging in a vigorous debate that doesn't always resemble a ladies seqing circle?
Here's my question to Andrew Sullivan:
ReplyDeleteAre "Christianists" sectarian bigots for refusing to accept the Mormon Mitt Romney, or are they cold calculating dealmakers who will accept the obviously insincere Romney because he mouths the right words?
LOL, John. When it comes to cold and calculating, a Republican is like an Alaskan Salmon using a TI-89.
ReplyDeleteLate to this entry but did you see this comment from Mark S. (not for Shea) to the post you link to?
ReplyDeleteI get the impression that their big problem with McCain is not that he isn't conservative, but that he isn't a neo-conservative.
It's a great illustration of the kind of the critical thinking skills and informed commentary that's been cultivated over at CAEI.
John McCain -- the same guy who has been berated for saying he'd keep us in Iraq for 100 years if necessary, the same guy who was supported by Bill Kristol when he first ran -- that John McCain is being attacked by Rush, Hannity, etc. because he's not a neo-conservative. Just shows that the word has no meaning other than as a stand it for "Republican I don't like."

Mark A. (not for Antony), no one is ever late over here. Except me.
ReplyDeleteWell, right; at this point everyone who hasn't noticed that there has been a huge argument on the right about the direction of the conservative movement has not been paying attention for several years, or they've been just tuning in to the "You're a great American" Hannity schtick, the perfect strawman, IMO. And that remark about McCain not being a "neo-conservative" is just dumb. In the reduced, pejorative sense in which these folks employ the term he probably is. But, as you say, so is every other RIDL.
