so my 3 year old wants to wear only pink head to toe. she has been very difficult lately and to punish her i took away her pink clothes, to show her who's boss. explaining this to her, in the midst of one of her tantrums, i said to her, "i can take them because i gave them to you. who bought you your pink clothes in the first place?" and she replied (well, screamed in reply) "Nobody!", and then I said, "No, Mom bought them". this exchange repeated itself for about 3 minutes ("so who bought you your pink clothes?" .... "NOBODY!") and then she finally got the message ("Mom bought them").
(so it's like i'm God, my daughter is hitchens and God is asking Hitchens, "so who gave you your writing talent?" and Hitchens screams back "Nobody!") it's easier to understand God when you're a parent. at this point i wouldn't blame God for hiring a full time nanny. a mean one.
thanks for the poem. all this dreher/yale stuff has me riled up on a day that should be happy.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it is. Exactly how it is.
ReplyDeleteGod has a mean full-time nanny named Cancer that he uses now and again.
Let's all pray for that dickhead. I hope he wakes up in heaven someday with Ma Teresa grinning at him.
"William V. Doyle, SJ" was my great uncle, and has been gone for many years. I would be very interested to know where you found this poem.
ReplyDeleteGosh, Mike, I can't remember, but I think it was in a catolog of Catholic books or curriculum. Maybe in an email, I'll check....
