"Use Your Own Dirt"

A scientist says to God, "We don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning. We can take dirt and form it into the likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well that's interesting," says God." "Show Me." So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil. "Oh, no, no, no," interrupts God. "Get your own dirt."

Ma homey, James McCoy

James is a dude with whom I had the pleasure of sharing an apartment -- and really it was almost a "boarding house" of sorts -- back in "the day", circa 1994. He is truly one of the most interesting humans I have ever met on this planet and drop-dead funny. I learned a lot from the man, probably more than he realizes, but that's for another day.

I'm sooooo glad he got into poetry; I can now say "What slam poets am I into? Yeah, check out James McCoy -- he's great." Actually I did hear one in a coffee shop in Pittsburgh once who was decent, but otherwise my experience has been that most of them are the pseudo-intellectual equivalent of the drive-time shock jock. Anyway, enjoy this great "pomo" take on Orpheus and Eurydice and feel free to discuss.

How prayers change over time

When we began our family vacation on the last Saturday in July, and each time we started off after the many input and output breaks, we would say our traveling prayer:

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, keep us safe on our way."

As we traveled home yesterday, at some point around the 10-hour mark one letter of the prayer was changed. Of course this altered its meaning slightly, but may have increased its ardent sincerity:

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, keep us sane on our way."

The Gas of a Clown

Should I just sit by and countenance this sort of drivel1 by a clearly pseudonymous doofus? This kind of cheap, sloppy humor is surely of the most base and puerile kind.

Disgusting.

Which reminds me... great job on this video, bostonredsock.

Huh-huh.

1 - Actually, the answer is yes. I merely wanted to use the words countenance and drivel in the same sentence.

Pope Pius XII On Liberal Fascism

Check it out. It would seem that Pope Pius XII saw Hitler as a leftist as well and lumped him into the whole leftist/communist ball-o-wax in the same manner that Goldberg argues in his book.
