Pretty funny. Colbert quotes Matthew 10:34 to John M. and he doubts that it's really in "the red part", i.e., the words of Jesus Himself. Colbert keeps it pretty light, but at the same time really challenges the poor guy who's a better singer than he is a thinker.
Little trivia: met a guy who'd opened for Mellencamp's band. He referred to John M. as "Coug" and said he was angry and mean to everyone who went up to meet him. He said, "Don't stand to close to Coug, man, he don't like that," referring to the Napoleonic tendencies of the small town rocker. Whoops, I meant the Smalltown Rocker.
Typical of the Liberal Elite: Do as we say not as we do.

ReplyDeleteIf Colbert is allowed to say "motherf***er" then, yes, you're allowed to make Indiana jokes. As I've said before, you can make jokes about anyone of anything except for Bette Midler and Judy Garland.

ReplyDeleteMost of what he said was fatuous. If the Golden Rule requires us not to retaliate to an act of war, it would also require us not to prosecute and imprison criminals, resulting in a de facto anarchy. If he supports peace but isn't a pacifist, it's wholly dishonest to invoke Christian ethics only against those military actions he opposes. And it simply doesn't matter whether a principle is in the "red letters" of the Bible because Jesus Christ personally affirmed the authority of the Old Testament to the smallest pen-stroke, and if Jesus is who He claimed to be, Jesus Himself inspired every book of the Bible.
And I wonder why exactly Comedy Central let this guy sing a Chevy jingle.
But none of that should detract from the man's very serious hair.
Serious indeed. The hair adds at least 3 inches to his height.
