Oh, I can hardly wait.
Per a tweet pointed out to me by Pikkumatti, Rod Dreher is returning to the blogosphere. Maybe he got tired of having internet searches on his name return Est Quod Est and R. S. McCain on the first page, mainstream conservatives that we are. So rah, rah, yay team.
Update: Picture change.
Oh Goody! More drivel from LSU's favorite posuer!
ReplyDeleteThat must mean he's not at Templeton anymore...?
ReplyDeleteDiane, that is correct, he resigned from Templeton and will continue to live in the Philly area. If you glance at his most recent tweets (http://twitter.com/#!/roddreher) you'll get a few more details. Such as "Cant wait to foodblog again. All this terrific lacinato kale at the farmer's mkt, and me having to be silent about it's magical powers!"
ReplyDeleteSo Anita, are you telling us that Rod will be blogging for Kitchen Table Wisdom?
ReplyDeletePauli, I wouldn't think so, given that I never blog about cooking and don't know what lacinato kale is. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust thinking of where the man was at one time and where he is now is enough to cause severe vertigo.
ReplyDeleteJonathan either meant to write poseur or a phonetic abbreviation for "post sewer".
ReplyDeleteLOL, y'all are cracking me up.
ReplyDeleteOK, off-topic, but did y'all hear about our earthquake? Here's a pic of the devastation:
http://jmckinley.posterous.com/dc-earthquake-devastation
He mentions a new job in the tweet prior, so I guess it is possible he truly jumped rather than being pushed. Still, if he lost as much money on the Dallas house as he intimates, he'll have to move WAY out from downtown Philly for the acreage his poultry-and-victory-garden survival compound will require...
ReplyDelete-The Man From K Street
LOL, Man from K Street. Maybe he jumped because he was being pushed? It happens! I dunno, I just can't help but believe that the Templeton folks are popping champagne corks right now.
ReplyDeleteBut here's the real question of the hour: Will Muzhik be back?
Pauli, I miss the kitty!!!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen this from a couple months ago where he dumps on Dolan for not being Catholic enough. Nice.
ReplyDeleteDiane, we're all praying for you and hoping you recover. Plastic chairs are not cheap and when they tip over like that people can really get skinned up, not to mention small expensive pets.
ReplyDelete^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteDreher dumping on Dolan...don't get me started!
Oh man, I thought the lacinato kale tweet was a fine bit of satire. personally I can't wait until he blogs again.
ReplyDelete"Lacinato kale is a variety of kale with a long tradition in Italian cuisine, especially that of Campania. It is also known as Tuscan kale, Tuscan cabbage, Dinosaur kale, cavolo nero, black kale, flat back cabbage, palm tree kale, or black Tuscan palm." ahhhhhh but of course! it's a FINE year for the CAVOLO NERO.
ReplyDeleteOh no,
ReplyDeleteI fell for bait and read the twitter feed. Ogh. Is there a juried competition anywhere for "Worlds Most Smug SOB". If so, I think we have a champion.
-SiliconValleySteve
"Smug Naïf of the Year" is closer, I think. But he is an SOB. That whole sneering piece about "Dolan--not his finest hour....." Haunted by the Catholic Church. Forever.
ReplyDeleteRod Dreher is coming back? Wow, now that is news.
ReplyDeleteIn a manner of speaking, Rod has been around and has written several articles which have appeared on Real Clear Religion.
ReplyDeleteYes, and it's ironic, Oengus, that almost every piece he writes for Real Clear Religion seems to make religion more vague and subjective.
ReplyDelete"Real Clear Religion" is the stupidest title ever.
ReplyDeleteYah...he is back!!! Telling us Orthodox how to be Orthodox...Please take his keyboard away!
ReplyDeleteThe "Real Clear Politics" site is really good imho, but the result of extending the brand into the realm of religion is another BELIEFNET, unfortunately. It's a place where everybody can "share", i.e., bloviate.
ReplyDeleteAnon Orthodox, is "Yah" a karate chop sound?
ReplyDeleteI too looked at the Twitter feed (curse you, Pauli), and top of the list now is more sociology of religion of the Baby bear porridge variety, the only sort the Dreher tummy is really able to digest. If you hazard pointing out to the Rodster that the stock in trade he peddles (including that weird hipster "Crunchy Con" ideological Pilates he invented) boils down to being nothing BUT the "Moralistic Therapeutic Deism" he is always deriding as the cental problem of our time, be prepared to receive a stern IKYABWAI in rebuke.
ReplyDeleteThis pathetic clown is such a hollow shell of a human being, so desperately in search of something, ANYTHING "authentic" to scribble on the constantly self-erasing blank slate of his personality that he makes empty suit Obama look like Moses bearing the Decalogue by comparison.
But I can't wait for his new organic "Orthodox" bean dip recipe, as long as I can make it without the beard clippings, of course.
Turns out our working boy is blogging for the "American Conservative". A reasonable place for a successful writer and pundit (ala Pat Buchanen) to roost but pretty down market from director of publications for Templeton. Seems he was pushed.
ReplyDelete- SiliconValleySteve
wow thought Id never think the Templeton Foundation could do the correct thing
ReplyDeletePlease please do not think he speaks for Orthodoxy
From Rod's tweet: Exciting things happening at TAC this fall
ReplyDeleteYeah, the former biweekly-turned-monthly will switch to a quarterly! And go back to being online-only! And Larison will continue to warn us all of the greatest threat ever to humankind: Mitt Romney!
Life continues to imitate the Onion: http://www.theonion.com/articles/failing-us-economy-no-reason-at-all-to-stop-invest,21251/
- The Man From K Street
Oh, dear! Not only do his fellow Orthodox chastise him on Real Clear Religion for using his column to bitch slap the "iniquitous" Bishop Mark from a national bully pulpit, now the iniquitous Steve Jobs has decided to torment him as well with the hateful new Lion OS and headphones one can't work out with! Oh, the burdens the crunchy must crunch through to be in the world but not of it!
ReplyDeleteLast Anonymous: Linky please. I must confess I'd love to see how Rod's fellow Orthodox chastise him. OK, not a very Christian sentiment, but.... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance!
Diane
I'm Orthodox and I am just sick of his self centeredness..Does he ever admit he is wrong ? does he ever say "I think?" No its always some self centered rant..I wish he'd go back to Rome..
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know what happened at Templeton..maybe they just stuck a fork in him and all the hot hair blew out..
I wish he'd go back to Rome
ReplyDeleteHey, no backsies, as someone else said recently. (Paul Zummo, I think.)
Now, before my fellow Catholics jump on me, let me say that I'm just kidding. Seriously! ;)
Good ...take him! he is still in love with Rome! everything he does is still protesting Rome..he does not see we are still feuding brothers...
ReplyDeleteDiane, our working mean girl twirls and tells the whole school what a bitch her rival Mark is here
ReplyDeletehttp://www.realclearreligion.org/articles/2011/08/31/death_of_the_richest_man_in_dallas.html
Of course all I can say to such talk is OH SNAP!
And now the Orthodox get to enjoy Dreher's little turns on the catwalk. Don't take it personally, he's too sexy for your church.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Kathleen. Oy, it only hurts when I laugh.
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me the Templeton parting was mutual. I'm sure Rod was chafing at the bit during his whole time there. Our Working Boy's GOTTA have an audience. I really wonder whether it's a classic case of needing that constant source of Narcissistic Supply. But I'm not a shrink (I just need one), so I hesitate to speculate....
ReplyDelete...especially when dreher goes on and on about how it was an "amicable" parting. sooooo very amicable.
ReplyDeletehe does go on...bloviating about how horrible gay clergy are as his old parish in Dallas is full of them and sits in the middle of the Dallas gay ghetto...Oh the irony!
ReplyDeleteThis will be the week for two things whose time has long since already come and gone, Obama's labor speech and the return to the blogosphere of Rod Dreher, the Norma Desmond of DIY conservatism. While I'm sure his core posse of lonely, shut in middle aged women will be there to greet him, I'd be really surprised to see him turn numbers like he did before. While he was failing as publications director in Templeton's hollow tree, baking those kale cookies nobody could stand, history has moved on and left him behind. He may get some love from kindred spirits like Andrew Sullivan, but I'm afraid the rest may be something painful to behold, like watching a small animal slowly suffer and die.
ReplyDeleteHe's over there discussing sperm right now -- the only thing that interests him more than kale.
ReplyDeleteLOL, love the Anonymous comments. Sheesh, Rod's fellow Orthodox are harder on him than we papists are. ;)
ReplyDeleteDiane, we've had the softening that comes with the passage of time. You may recall that time not so long ago in which many of the players here were referred to as the "A*#holes for Christ". We've been there, and Our Hero picks at the scab every so often to remind us (see Pauli's new post).
