"He's not here!!" (Yeah, he's in Pattaya, I'll bet)

  1. "A play so modern, and so brilliant, it makes absolutely no sense to anybody." That sentence alone makes this video full of win.

  2. Yours truly "starred" as Vladimir in a high school English class production of excerpts from the play. And no, that did not lend me any insight into what it was about.

Art which is thought that its point is that it has no point is a waste of everyone's time. Yes, I'm talking about you, Quentin Tarantino.

  3. Waiting for Godot is pretty much beyond parody. You have to really strain to make something have less meaning, less purpose. Grover and Telly actually have personalities, so maybe their performances are more poignant since they are utterly failing to be banal like the Godot characters.

My bro-in-law and I were on a quest for Elmo-as-pervert references ("Elmolester") when I found this. I was reminded of my wife telling me she was anti-Elmo about 12 years ago when we first started dating. When I asked her why she explained that while each monster has his own character traits, it seems like Elmo's schtick has always been gratuitous cuteness and nothing more. Knowing that the irritating voice comes from an aging black gay guy who likes 'em young does not assuage this perception.

  4. Ace of Spades was full of Elmo references, hardly surprising from that crowd. :)

Very interesting take on Elmo's character.

Speaking of Sesame Street, did you hear Justice Sotomayor made an appearance to tell AbbyCadabby that being a princess is not a valid career option? Way to dash those dreams. And hey, it worked for Princess Kate.

  5. That's just super, Barb.

We are now telling little girls that they can't be a princess but that they instead should be an engineer, even if they aren't interested.

Every little girl is a princess, until we beat it out of her.

Little wonder our culture is so lacking in romance and wonder.
