Joe Wilson owns Obama: "You Lie"

First of all, the proponents of so-called health care reform have totally asked for this charge to be made by including the number of illegal immigrants in the number of uninsured they advertise. I've heard the number quoted anywhere between 46 million and 50 million, and regardless of what the exact number is, 12 or 13 million of these folks are here illegally.

Thank you, Joe Wilson. Sometimes two words are all you need. The calm reaction from the President is indicative of someone who knows he's lying. People show more passion when falsely accused of telling an untruth.

  1. Joe Wilson provided the only moment of sanity. Yeah, he should apologize, be censured, write "I will not shout 'you lie' again." a hundred times on the chalkboard, . . . yada yada. Decorum was violated, OK.

But I figure that if you do something over the top, you had better be right about what you do. (See the Declaration of Independence for an example.) Joe Wilson was right.

Most sickening and portentous moment: Obama throwing a bone to McCain so that McCain's smiling it's-all-about-me mug and vomit-inducing-thumbs-up get camera time. Let me guess: McCain will lead the charge for "bipartisan" selling out.

  2. I've been reading all this outrage regarding Wilson's comment, but he's just saying aloud what a lot of people are thinking.

Maybe Wilson should have been more subtle, like pretending to scratch his face with his middle finger during the speech. Obama himself did that twice, once when debating Hillary and once during a campaign stop when referring to McCain. The videos of Obama pulling this little trick (along with cheers of approval from his supporters) can be found on YouTube.

But really, isn't it simply more honest to tell Obama bluntly, "You lie", than sneaking an obscene gesture? Where was all this outrage when Obama pulled that crap?

  3. Here's the thing. Joe Wilson is a politician. Shouting "you lie" at the President gave him face time to say his piece. The apology was probably all he'll have to "pay" for that. Think his SC voters will be upset that he dissed Obama?

    Eggzackly!!!!

IMHO, he should have said, "You lie! You lie like a dirty lying dog! You lie like lily-livered scum! You lie like a a whoreson knave!"

Imagine what Cyrano de Bergerac could have done with this teachable moment...LOL!

  5. Unintended but not unfortunate consequence of this is that all the buzz is about "You Lie!" and very little buzz seems to remain about the Obama speech itself.

I think it would have been even better/worse if he had yelled "Bullsh!$", but "You Lie" was sufficient.
