The Little Way to Big Money

Wow, lots of news today! As I was copying the link for the famous book, Crunchy Conservatism earlier, I noticed that the new offering of the famed author, Rod Dreher, is now available for pre-order. Yes: The Little Way of Ruthie Leming is coming out in April 2013, almost 7 years and 2 months after Dreher's ground-breaking debut.

We knew this was coming and discussed it excitedly earlier here and here. And, of course, our parody song was required reading and meditation material.

Now—guess what I'm going to do for all of you? I, humble Pauli, am going to purchase (most likely on Kindle), read and excerpt this million dollar biography right here on Est Quod Est when Little Way makes its big debut in April. We'll praise and condemn, share the joys and sorrows, analyze and critique this monumental writing. We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll dream... etc. Also we'll post times for promotional media appearances, especially on call-in shows so we can band together to ask the famous author really good questions which, if you think of any, please post below. ("Baba-Booey! Baba-Booey!")

And... don't forget to check this link from time to time.

  1. I think there's a lot to be thankful for in this book. For instance, it's pretty clear from everything he's said about his sister that her life of simple goodness and solid achievements helping other people in need has already made a complete mockery of everything about his. So when it came to that festering Ed Gein need to possess, dominate, and become the intimidating other in order to make those 3AM voices finally stop, the book and fake homie Prodigal Son route just has to be a better solution than the Ruthie suit.

  2. The real story here is/will be when the town turns on Ray for his profitable exhumation.

  3. I think we should go all Marci Maven on Ruthie Leming and St. Francisville. Let's all go down there for awhile and interview everybody, stand around on street corners reading the book out loud, preach crunchy conservatism as the only viable lifestyle. Make a map based on the book, and a board game, shoot lots of footage for youtube.

What'ya say? Come on! it'll be fun.

  5. All the stops would have Rod's name in them. "Rod Dreher's sister's school", "Rod Dreher's favorite tree", etc.

  6. ...or maybe we should just organize a "scram pool" where we all try to guess the date on which the younger Drehers pick up and move to Berverly. (Hills, that is.)

  7. LOL. Something tells me St Francisville's not very crunchy. Except when people are biting off crawfish heads.

  8. I have to wonder what the husband she left behind thinks about this, the local guy firefighter, Iraq War vet. Not much interest in the little way of Ruthie Leming all those years brother-in-law Rod had the opportunity to visit and embrace her alive. Now, when there's the opportunity to exploit her death with a treacly story starring Rod's finely edited emotional reaction, brother-in-law Rod is large and in charge, being oh-so-visible, dropping vacations on the widower's daughter and money on chosen special interests around town. It's so horribly vulgar he might as well be humping the dead wife's rotting corpse in front of her cuckolded widower while condescendingly tucking a roll of 100's into the man's pocket and patting it home.

But how would you react if you were Rod's brother-in-law?

  9. Keith, I think some of us have wondered in private emails what the husband thinks about it. Maybe he doesn't care as long as the money pours in.

Here's a post I did which references the many times (five that I know of) Rod mentioned the whole one-legged stripper conversation which took place, as he remarked, "[a]after Ruthie died, I was drinking beer (again) with her friends." I can't help but think these were her husband's friends if they had stripper photos on their cell-phones.
