Email Subscription Service

Here's a new service for my faithful readers to make sure that no post of mine, regardless of how stupid, will fail to hit your inbox. Mosey on over to the right sidebar, put your email in the box and click the "Subscribe me" button. You'll get a nice email every morning with a list of posts since the last one. If you don't get an email, it's because I was too lazy busy to post anything.

Yes, this electronic paperboy will make sure nothing marked "Contra Pauli" will land in your gutter or your garden.

  1. Recently there have been fascinating developments in benedict dreher's own "OCA", in which a scandal of growing proportions seems to be coming to a head. Numerous members of the church are calling 3/24/07 "Black Friday". These recent developments happen to implicate directly the "Gandalfian" Dmitri of Dallas. oh, and the continued existence of the "OCA" is being called into question.

Fascinating, then, that Our righteous crusading Working Boy chose to devote the weekend to writing lengthy posts about the sinful practices of ...used car salesmen! not a peep about the (new)coverups and dishonesty of leaders in his own OCA. radio silence.

Where o where is the crusading journalist of old who railed endlessly against the sins of religious leaders? gone the way of dreher's own catholicism, one must conclude (which might be reasonable, were he to maintain such discipline in the face of catholic scandals, mis-steps, slights, cross-eyed looks, etc.)

taken in context, dreher's s resounding silence in the face of grievous OCA scandal, constitutes a double standard of gigantic proportion. by reasonable inference, another catholic bash worth a few extra dollars to Donohue and co.

  2. I would suggest that in pre-electronic days there would probably be a wastecan full of crumpled papers next to the man's desk at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he's working, at least somewhat, on a Dreher-ian response to this, but is between a rock and at least a few hard places. Self-inflicted to be sure.

I'll wait awhile to see if a more solidified bash of this sort emerges.

  3. I would send more money to Dr. Donohue Kathleen. I also think we should focus on abuses going on in schools, other churches and even in the media. I just do not want to fall into Dreher's habit of just focusing on one particular church because it is simpler to do. This may not be the way things are in journalism school but as a Historian I learn to look beyond the simplistic.

  4. Hi Jonathan, my goal on this particular thread is more to highlight telling inconsistencies than combat abuse per se.

  5. Bubba, if i could read dreher's commentary without wanting to stick needles in my eyes then i might discuss that other stuff as well. as it is, i've limited myself to looking for catholic bashes, since that way i can usually limit myself to reading the lede only. the repetitive nature of the bashes is also a huge advantage in this endeavor, i.e. holding dreher's feet to the fire without actually having to read his dross. using a related tactic of simultaneous avoidance and engagement, this weekend i only had to look for dreher's failure to address the quickening OCA scandal.
