My kids have plastic boots. So?

...phew, glad that's over....

  1. When I am at Keith's age (measured either in years, or in wear and tear), I hope that I am as good at my job as he is at his. Actually, I hope that I am that good at my job at any time.

This song has my absolute favorite opening Keith guitar lick. I wish they could have found a way to wrap it up tho (sorry, I didn't make it in this vid much past the great Bobby Keys solo). The first 3 minutes could be in the dictionary next to Rock and Roll.

  2. I feel the same way about it. I heard Bono talking about how they had messed around with some lick for years, then finally they found a home in a song for it. I think it was Vertigo. It's a good thing to remember that a lick isn't a song.

The one reason I keep going back to Exile is that I think it's the only album they ever did without filler material.

  3. The last Rolling Stones album I bought was Some Girls. Kinda dates me, I know. . . .

P.S. I got nothing in particular against the newer stuff, except that I am generally unfamiliar with it. Plus the old stuff is so great, I haven't been compelled to look further, I guess.

  4. Told you Dreher reads this blog. Today he treats us to his learned opinion of the Stones' body of work. With the appropriate hand wringing in the combox.

I'll get over my morbid curiosity of clicking on his dumb blog before too long. Right now, tho, it's good for me to have a dose of pretentiousness first thing in the morning.

  5. At first I tried regularly visiting Dreher's new site, but I've largely given up going there except sporadically for two reasons:

    1) It's still All About The Scandal 24/7. I know the year in suburban Philly made him an expert of Pennsylvania civil society, but does every item on l'affaire JoPa *have* to include a mention of his issues from 2002? Does an item on some Catholics going to Southern Baptist churches have to be about his issues from 2002? Does a discussion of Italian sovereign debt have to be about his issues from 2002?

    2) The AmCon website's design that only gives you the past three posts is asinine.
